in search of a scene

      this story is written by Faras Seruni in order to complete her Literature Assignment

     with the tittle In Search of A Scene.

High school might be the best  time of life for the one who go through it peacefully and beautifully. Riverdale high is  a place where almost  all teenager from Southside study  and experience a dark scene of their life. Although Ana and friends did enjoy her high school but it don’t stay any longer after the school summer break. An ‘accident’ won’t let her and entire friends  enjoy it for the whole time. It’s like their school life turn into black for all of a sudden. They are panic, frightened but curious about what happen.  They want to let go of it but they can’t. They need an answer about all of this.

Second day of school after the summer break, Ana go to school with Camila and shock because everyone is congregate at the hall. Curious about what happend, they split the crowd and find Smith lying down at the floor with a secondhand shot right in his head and a revolver near him . They see Rad in the crowd. Suddenly, an ambulance come as well as the police, then bring Smith to the ambulance. The police do the investigation and talk to the principle and some teacher. An hour later, Kevin appear at the garden near the basketball yard where they like to spend their time. Kevin shock too and ask Ana, Rad and Camila about what happen to Smith, but they remain silent.

“ Where were you?” asks Ana to Kevin.

“ I was at a friend playing a video game untill dawn” answer Kevin. Then silent.

“ How can he do that at school?” ask Kevin break the silence.

“ Are you out of your mind? He is been shoot!” says Rad angrily.

“ The police said that there is someone who shot Smith this morning” says Camila.

“ Who? “ ask Kevin. Rad’s phone is ringing.

“ I don’t know. By the way, Mr. Keller ask us to testify for what happend this morning” tell Ana.

Not long after what happened at school, Ana get called by Mr. Keller the police. Mr. Keller want her to testify about the accident. He also calls Rad and Camila to testify. At the police station, Ana meets her teacher named Sharon who wants to testify as well. Her teacher seems sweating and so nervous.

The next day aftter won’t be the same like before. They high school days must go on with or without Smith. Smith is the funniest guy among them. He likes to play a jokes and smart.

At the school garden, they are sit and wait for the next class. Camila just reliazed that Kevin isn’t called by the police to testify like the others.

“Are you going to testify for Smith’s death, Kev?” ask Camila to Kevin.

“I don’t know, my father said that i wasn’t around when the accident happen, so i wasn’t called to testify” explain Kevin. Rad rolles his eyes. Rad is suspicous to Kev because of his calmity to this accident and his missing in the morning when we see Smith’s body.

“What’s the matter, Rad?” ask Kevin, he realizes Rad behaviour.

“Well, not being around doesn’t mean that you are clean” says Rad

“Are you accusing me shot Smith?!” says Kevin. They both ready to fight but Ana know how to do.

“Guys, c’mon its not the right thing to finish this. Let’s change the subject” says Ana.

“Ok, c’mon Rad. What did you say to the police yesterday?” ask Camila.

“Not much, they ask me to tell what kind of person Smith is, who is Smith for me and my activity a night before that accident happen” explain Rad.

“Same, they ask me that as well” says Camila

“Yeah me too, but i saw Ms.Sharon yesterday, she testified too” explain Ana. “I ask the police about her and they said that she is the first teacher who testified”

“Hmmm... but all of us wasn’t at school in the night before that accident happen right?” ask Camila

“Of course, where would we be? Except Kevin” says Rad.

“I told you that i was at a friend,Rad” explain Kev.

“Don’t your friend had a name,Kev?” ask Ana. Kevin rolles his eyes.

“It’s Reggie” answer Kevin doubtfully. He thinks it’s the right time to tell them rather than he is fall under suspicion. Reggie is famous guy who sell jingle – jangle(meth) to the other student.

“Just be careful with your father,Kev” reminds Rad. Kevin mengangguk.

“Ok, guys. Does the police already check the CCTV?” ask Ana suddenly.

“Well, i think they are. What did your father said,Kev?” says Camila.

“I heard my father said on the phone this morning, the police already check the camera but there is something missing and weird there” explain Kevin.

“What is it,Kev?” ask Ana and Kevin just shrugged his shoulders.

After school end, they go to the security room of their school to search the record of the camera. There is a security who keep the room. Luckily they have Ana who can persuade the security, so they can enter and see the record. Silently Ana copy the video recording.

“How is that possible? There is nothing on the video” ask Camila confusedly.

“I don’t know, i guess the person who shot Smith take the real video record.”  says Rad

“But on the other record, there is only Smith who come to school at that time” says Camila

“Aren’t this school has a 24 hour security? Smith can’t be just lay down on the floor like that. There must be an explanation for this. “ utters Kevin.

“Yeah, i know there is something weird in that record, it’s like there is a scene that is cut” guess Ana. “I copied the record so we can see it again” explain Ana while showing her flashdisk.

At night after they saw the video record they got from school, Rad go to Smith’s house and meet Smith’s mom. Rad wants to take his things that he left in Smith’s bedroom before Smith died. As always, Smith’s mom is drunk well half drunk in this time. Smith only live with his mom because his dad left him and his mom, that is why his mom likes to get drunk.

Rad surprised by Smith’s bedroom, it’s clean and tidy. It’s not like usual which always messy. As Rad knows Smith’s mom never done that because she is drunk like all the time and has no time fot it but Rad just let go of that thought. After he finds his thing, he see Smith’s laptop at the table and tempted to open it. He opens Smith’s email and shock of what he see. He reads an email of Smith threatening his teacher,Sharon, at the latest inbox a day before Smith dead.

Rad can’t believe what he see. He also finds an email from an anonymous about weapon trade. Even weird, Rad finds a strange file that contains about Sharon’s darkness. Rad confused of what is the relation between his friend,Smith, and his math teacher, Sharon. Still curious about what can he find in Smith’s laptop. He opens Smith’s internet history. Rad can’t wait to tell his friends what he finds.

The next morning at school during recess. Ana,Camila, Kevin and Rad are busy discussing about Smith’s death. Rad tells everything that he finds in Smith’s laptop. Everything. All of them shock and a little bit confused about what is the connection between them.

“Even worse, i saw Smith’s internet history and it all about weapon trade” explains Rad.

“I’m so surprised and confused at the same time” says Kevin. Camila nod.

“Is it possible if Ms.Sharon killed Smith? She might be afraid about her dark secret is going to come up” guess Ana.

“Of course, that’s possible. I think we should spy on her” says  Camila.

“Oh guys, my dad told me last night that the video recording is been replaced by someone because there is a lost minutes in that record” says Kevin. “I knew it!” Ana screams.

“So someone who replaced the video recording is the one who killed Smith?” asks Camila.

“The doer should be Ms. Sharon or the person from the weapon trade that he meet at the night he died” says Rad trying to solve the puzzle.

“How can we investigate Ms. Sharon? and Rad, do you know something about this person from the weapon trade?” asks Ana.

“I have the person’s email, probably i can try to reach him” says Rad. “By the way, Kev how is Smith’s case processes at the police? I don’t think that Smith’s mom care about this, she still like to get drunk” asks Rad.

“Well, not so far as we go comparing to what we know today. My dad will finish this case” says Kevin with certainty. “Also, the police is checking some security who work for that night” plus Kevin.

“Great guys, i think we should move quickly to get an info from Ms. Sharon” says Camila.

“Yes, i think we can start from her laptop too. If she killed Smith, she might have the real video recording from that night” says Ana. “Plus we have to check her strange things and document, maybe we can find something as an evidence” explains Ana.

“I can go undercover with Kevin trying to make her busy while you and Rad checking her laptop” Camila reply. Everybody nods.

Won’t wait any longer, they directly do the action. Camila and Kevin success distract Sharon while Rad and Ana tinkering her laptop. Luckily, they have Rad who is smart in computer. Without waiting any longer Rad can access a lot of files in Sharon’s laptop. Ana checking Sharon’s documents in her desk and drawer ,anything. Ana finds a hard disk but there are two there in the drawer. She calls Rad while showing the two hard disk. Rad just say “take it all”. On the other hand, Camila and Kevin can’t hold Sharon any longer. Immediately, Kevin give a sign to Ana and Rad to get out of Sharon’s office.

After school ends, they go to Camila’s home to continue their discussion. They can’t wait and worry to open Sharon’s hard disk. Ever crossed to Cam’s mind how to return that hard disk before got caught up.

“I bring my laptop, so we can quickly check that both hard disk” says Rad.

“Great, i’ll go check one of them” Kevin responds.

“Well, in this hard disk, there are only documents about schools, student’s value” says Rad. No need a long time to explore it. He is a pro.

“I’m still searching....” says Kevin while scrolling the computer screen. Camila and Ana watching. “Nothing strange except.... this!” says Kevin surprisingly. Rad turn away immediately from his laptop to Kevin’s. They find a file with a name “intruder” from a hundred of an ordinary files. They all are stratled by what they just find.

“Oh my God, there are just many things related to Smith’s death” says Ana. Camila just close her mouth with her hands.

“Is this even real?” asks Kevin. “What should we do? Should we give this to the police?” asks Kevin. He is sweating.

“Damn, i can’t believe this!” says Rad. “ Of course, we should! This is the truth!”

“But we take it from Sharon’s” Camila responds. She doubts it.

“It’s not a problem” says Rad. Ana who is the most startled still can’t say anything. “This is the complete and true story about what is really happened to Smith and we should  make Sharon to tell the truth” explain Rad trying to convince his friends.

In the evening around 5 pm, they go to the police station and give the evidence to Mr. Keller, Kevin’s father. The police have a chance to ask some questions to them. After finish checking the evidence, the police go to Sharon’s home to caught her.  Mr. Keller says that they evidence is enough to do the apprehension. They feel relieved, but Ana still remain silent. Ana still wonder why Smith do that.

The next day, the police determines Sharon as a doer in Smith death. Sharon tells everything to the police. She is arrested because she helps Smith to commit suicide and crimes that she done. Sharon helps Smith to manipulate the video recording, hide the evidence and poison the security who work at that night. She do that because she is threatened by Smith. Sharon is the only one who see Smith shoot himself. He does it in front of her around 2 am at school. After that, Sharon edit the video recording at the security room and directly go home. In the video recording only Smith who is seen entering the school because Sharon is already there, she doesn’t go home after the school end.

“Did he tell you why he do that?” asks the police to Sharon.

“Hmm...  he said he just want to satisfy himself” Sharon responds with smile.
